Hollywood Learning Centers History

We founded our  preschool in Hollywood FL, The Learning Centers, in 1985 with a commitment to serve children and families with a spirit of love and care in the Hollywood community.    Led by a remarkable leader, Virginia Gray, we began by providing a Preschool Program for the ages of 3-5.  We then expanded to include an After School Program for students from Kindergarten through Grade 5, and in 2008, we added our newest program, the Early Learning Center, to provide daycare for children of ages 1 and 2.   Today, we serve over 150 children in our various childhood education programs and are now moving towards programming that will support parents and families in other areas from marriage enrichment to financial management.

We are proud to offer these programs to meet the needs of our community:

  • The Learning Center, our preschool program, serving ages 3-5;
  • The Early Learning Center, our daycare & early childhood program, serving ages 1-2;
  • Our After School Program to provide enrichment for elementary age children;
  • Summer Camp during the traditional summer months along with various camp programs during the school year to accommodate the public school calendar holidays.

Our Approach to Nurturing Children

As a ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood FL whose mission is to be God’s good news, we build our Learning Centers programs on principles of care, commitment to children, academic skills and character development.  We provide a safe, loving, Christian environment for children where they learn the skills to succeed in school and in life.  We are proud to provide high quality child care for children ages 1 to 12 years old, full time, part time, or year round.   Our goal is to help each child to develop a positive self-image, build confidence, learn social skills, increase sensory awareness, improve language, be expressive through music, art, and movement, and develop motor skills and cognitive abilities.  At our preschool in Hollywood FL, we teach in a way that awakens in children a life-long love of learning.

Standards and Accreditation

A recipient of the Gold Seal Quality of Care Award and accredited by APPLE as an Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment, our preschool in Hollywood FL and all the programs of the Learning Centers are fully licensed and monitored by Broward County Childcare Licensing and Enforcement Section, an agency of the Florida Human Services Department. In addition, our Afterschool program has been certified with the School age Unit Certificate of Endorsement, also issued by APPLE of the Florida Association of Child Care Management. The Learning Centers has received 4 and ½ Stars out 5 Stars in the Broward County Quality Rating System, and our kitchen, where we prepare healthy hot lunches and healthy snacks, is licensed and regularly inspected by the Broward County Department of Health.

Our programs are governed by the Learning Center Board, made up of Church leaders, parent representatives and community members.  Parents who are interested in serving on the Board may contact the school office at 954.922.8558.
